Episode Description

This alternative therapy helps a huge population of children with ADHD — not just the burgeoning da Vincis and van Goghs. Art therapy uses the processes of drawing, painting, and sculpting to address emotional challenges, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, and increase self-awareness. Children naturally communicate through art and play, and art therapy gives them a useful, nonverbal approach to building new skills. Plus parents can encourage art-making at home by working side-by-side with their children to enhance their strengths and manage behavior.

This webinar will explain:

  • How art therapy actually works
  • How art therapy helps a child address personal challenges through physical activity and sensory integration
  • How the practice of art therapy reduces stress and increases interpersonal skills
  • Strategies parents can use to make art at home with their children
  • Three art projects any parent can use to bring out the best in their child
  • Stories of children who have benefited from art therapy sessions
  • Ideas for how school staff can encourage art making in the classroom
  • What to look for when hiring an art therapist

This ADHD Experts webinar was first broadcast live on May 17, 2017.
