“A Summer Schedule for Kids with ADHD: How to Balance Fun, Independence & Structure” [Video Replay & Podcast #210]

In this hour-long webinar-on-demand, learn how to create a balanced summer schedule for children and teens with ADHD with Sarah A. Tannenbaum, Psy.D.

Episode Description

The school year is winding down, and your child is understandably fantasizing of lazy summer days free from homework, alarms, and stress. You are ready for a break, too, and hopeful your child will benefit from down time, a medication break, and some serious running around. Your summer fantasy sounds relaxing and fun, but it may actually cause more problems and sleepless nights.

Why? Children with ADHD thrive on structure. When you strip away the school-year routine entirely, disaster often ensues. Instead, take a measured approach to summer by working with your child to establish schedules and goals, and to create an environment that fosters fun and relaxation — and symptom control.

In this webinar you will learn:

  • How to involve your child in establishing a summer schedule with total buy-in
  • Effective rewards systems that will help your child follow the summer rules and structure while increasing his or her independence
  • How to praise your child effectively, provide positive reinforcement, and to increase pro-social behaviors during the summer months
  • How to actively ignore bad behavior to reduce power struggles
