“Maladaptive Daydreaming vs. ADHD: Important Similarities and Distinctive Differences” [Video Replay & Podcast #412]

Access the video replay, listen to the podcast episode (#412), download the slide presentation, and learn how to get a certificate of attendance for this ADHD Experts webinar originally broadcast on July 20, 2022.

Episode Description

Maladaptive daydreaming, sometimes called daydreaming disorder, describes the experience of becoming immersed in elaborate fantasies that lure an individual away from their day-to-day responsibilities for hours at a time. The daydreaming is so vivid and interesting that it becomes addictive. Often, real-life relationships and obligations are neglected as a result.

Maladaptive daydreaming is different from the mind-wandering typically experienced by people with ADHD, and it is rapidly gaining recognition in the scientific arena. Maladaptive dreaming is not yet a psychiatric diagnosis.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • How maladaptive daydreaming is defined and experienced
  • About the link between maladaptive daydreaming and ADHD
  • About the differences between maladaptive daydreaming and ADHD and mind-wandering
  • How mental health clinicians can assess maladaptive daydreaming and treatment implications
